هدف از این مطالعه بررسی نقش پوسته‌های زیستی بر ویژگی کربن آلی خاک در تالاب آجی‌گل استان گلستان (ایران) بود. در منطقه مورد مطالعه، سه نمونه خاک زیر سطح پوسته‌های زیستی و بدون پوسته در عمق 0-2 و 2-5 سانتی‌متر برداشت شد. همچنین فاکتور کربن آلی خاک برای همه نمونه‌های خاک مورد تجزیه و تحلیل قرار گرفت. نتایج نشان داد که وجود پوسته‌های زیستی در مقایسه با حالت بدون پوسته، کیفیت خاک را بهبود بخشیده است. از حالت بدون پوسته تا پوسته زیستی خزه، محتوای کربن آلی (OC) در دو عمق خاک (0-2 و 2-5 سانتی‌متر) به طور قابل توجهی افزایش یافت. بنابراین، وجود پوسته‌های زیستی خاک می‌تواند کیفیت خاک و همچنین پایداری آن را افزایش دهد.
